All she wanted was an escape. An escape from the world. An escape from her mind. An escape from the constant pain she felt. Her body was betraying her and leaving her in pain and agony. So she went to where she felt the most comfortable in times like this.

It wasn’t in a book. In a book, she could become whoever she was reading about. She could go on grand adventures and conquer castles. She could fall in love and have her heartbroken. The possibilities were endless, and the power was in her hands to pick which adventure she would embark on. But this wasn’t what helped the most.

It wasn’t watching a movie. In a movie, she could have superpowers and save the world. She could fly in the clouds and swim in the deepest oceans. The power she felt while watching a movie was incredible. Almost like she was really there. She was really fighting the villain and really dueling with the arch-nemesis. She was really battling an army. But this was not what helped the most.

With video games, she could do all that plus some. Her mind was challenged, and her imagination was ignited. Instead of feeling like she was there, she could be there. She could be the one fighting the villain. She could be the one flying above the clouds. She could be the clever thief in the night. The world was at her fingertips, and there was nothing stopping her.

For a short amount of time, she was completely distracted from her world. From her pain. From her raging mind. A mind and body that were failing her. She could escape.
